Put in Isolation for raising money for Charity

Today I have read a story about 14 year old Stan Lock who has been told by his school that he must stay in Isolation until his hair has grown back until a Grade 2 which could take weeks. Too give you some back story on this, Stan has seen a number of friends and family members fighting Cancer and decided enough was enough, so wanted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. He did this by shaving his head and getting people to donate, some of which were even teachers at his school. He did this on a Sunday evening but upon arriving at Churchill Academy in North Somerset, his PE teacher took a photo and sent it to the Head of the school.

The next day he arrived to find he was in isolation until his hair grew back, with his lunches and breaks taken from him also. The school's only answer was that is broke their strict uniform policy as it is considered an 'extreme' hairstyle. In an extract from The Mirror newspaper the head had this to say:

"It is always easier then to blame someone else - I and the school are an easy target when the fault lies elsewhere."

"Some people wish to avoid consequences by blaming others - I think this sends a poor message to young people".

Now in my opinion the school are being very selfish and thinking only of their own 'image' here when they should be supporting a young child who is quite obviously trying to do something for the greater good. By taking such a stance against younger people doing charitable work, it is only going to put them off doing it in the future, which is quite a saddening thing to think about. In the extracts taken from the Heads speech, it seems he is trying to blame the parent for allowing their child to be caring for others, which to me is just such an incredible thing to say. The Head should be praising this child and using him as a shining example to the school of the things they can achieve and contribute to.

RuPaul's Drag Race Season 7 HUNTY

It's been a long time coming but the Trailer for Season 7 has just dropped along with a premier date of March 2nd 2015! However with a new Season, comes a LOT of changes, firstly the most noticeable, Santino Rice is no longer a main Judge. Joining Rupaul and Michelle Visage are Carson Kressley and Ross Mathews. Taken from the 'NewNowNext' article:

“Yes, Virginia, there is a gay Santa Claus!” beams RuPaul. “I asked for a new, wickedly funny, smart and experienced judge…and I got two! Ross and Carson are the perfect addition to the ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ family because they’re not just show biz experts, they’re superfans and longtime lovers of the art of drag.”

This season features not only some fantastic Queens, but seemingly some of the most SICKENING outfits to date, with one runway look being shown quite prominently during the trailer.

Both of the outfits look incredibly terrifying but incredible none the less! These come along with some of the most incredible Guest Judges as well as it seems LogoTv have gone all out with the budget of Season 7. Guest Judges for Season 7 include Ariana Grande, Jessica Alba, Demi Lovato, John Waters, Kathy Griffin, Olivia Newton-John, Jordin Sparks, Mel B and previous long term judge Santino Rice. We're heading for a massive season with some great episodes. Now all we have is the long wait...

Side note, it also seems to be the season of the cute out-of-drag as we can see here from Pearl:

What do you think of the new Queens and the Trailer? Let us know in the comments! We'll post the best ones in a Season 7 Update article if we get enough! Watch the Trailer here http://www.newnownext.com/rupauls-drag-race-season-7-premiere-date-announced/01/2015/

Lara Croft and the Temple Of Osiris

Up until recently I have been a firm believer that the Tomb Raider / Lara Croft games have been over hyped drivel thanks to a personal dislike of them, however this all changed recently. Thanks to having a boyfriend who is a massive Tomb Raider fan, I decided to download the recent rebooted version of Tomb Raider which he is enjoying a lot. Now when he first started playing I was sat on the other side of my room playing Kingdom Hearts 2.5 HD Remix, leaving him to play. However I couldn't help but glance over my shoulder to take a look at what exactly drew him to this game so much. I found myself constantly looking over my shoulder and watching him play, it had changed so much that it might just interest me. So when he went home on the Sunday Evening, I took the time to try it out and see if I did.

Within 30 minutes of playing I was hooked. I would count down the hours until I finished work to be able to go home and play it. That was on top of me keeping him up to date on how much further I had gotten than he had left it. However I completed it pretty quickly and found myself wanting more, then I stumbled upon the recently released 'Lara Croft and the Temple Of Osiris'. I didn't think I'd like it much due to the nature of it being old school Croft rather than reboot. After watching a few videos I contemplated it but never went through with it, that was until I looked on the PSN store. There it was, for £7 odd, and I couldn't resist. I bought it without thinking and once downloaded dived back in. I started playing a little hesitantly thinking 'urgh I'm not going to enjoy this' but again, I am finding myself hooked to the game! I've only just about managed to drag myself away to write this post.

To me, the game seems to be a merge of a varying set of Game Genres. You have aspects of a puzzle game (with how to open doors and defeat certain enemies), you have the action through combat with the varying weapons and RPG elements through the different skills you can equip through amulets and rings. Granted the graphics may not be up to Next Gen standards, but does that really matter in the day where Indie Games are saturating the market?

There isn't much of a story to the game, with only a mild one being explained throughout with the occasional dialogue or mild cut scene, but not a large amount that it becomes completely story driven. The game largely sticks to what Lara is best at, which is Tomb Raiding in search of the pieces of Osiris. The game is Egyptian driven, with a co-op of up to four people, including Horus and Isis the Egyptian Gods. In no way is this game a marvel of the New Generation consoles, neither does it innovate with any new game concepts however it does meld together the different genres in such a way, they seem flawless.

For a small snippet of gameplay footage, watch the video below:

Pros:
- Fluid Gameplay
- Great puzzles
- Harks back to Lara Croft of old

Cons:
- Outdated Graphics
- Lack of Story
- Sometimes clunky controls

Overall - 7/10
