Lego: Avengers - Some assembly required

Lego Avengers is a game I'd been waiting for, with the chance to play as Quicksilver (as there is a distinct lack of Lego X-Men games) I was hoping for the best when I heard about the game coming to light. After I installed the game I dived right in, but this is instantly where I was thrown off from the go. It started in Avengers: Age Of Ultron. This might not seem like much, but it goes deeper than that. The game seems to be lost in its pacing as it quickly switches to the original Avengers, then just as you think it's decided, it throws back even more to Captain America: The First Avenger.

One plus for the game however is how well it gets all of the characters down, from their outfits to their powers. Captain America is strong and able to throw his shield making him useful for removing quite a few thing at a time, where as the Hulk is capable of destroying a lot at once, but hard to maneuver. This leads me on to another unfortunate con for the game, which is its camera when playing Multiplayer. Now it's hard for me to ever get my other half to play a game as it is, but when the camera angles come in to play in this game, it just makes it frustrating for both of us. If one player is slightly out of the way, then the other may not be able to destroy those gold bricks needed to advance in the level.

At the time of writing I am progressing through the game and after doing some of Captain America: The First Avenger and all of Avengers Assemble, I am now going through Age of Ultron, shown in the video accompaniment below. I am hoping that as I finish this movie, it will allow me to do the others in the franchise, as without them, this game would be lacking.

One new improvement to the Lego games are the combo moves and special finishers. Depending on the characters you have active and who you are controlling, each character has a special move. Playing as Scarlet Witch and Hawkeye, when using their combo move, Scarlet Witch will hold in place a lot of enemies as Hawkeye fires numerous arrows at them. Special Finishers are all unique to the character too, with each having two from what I have noticed.

Pros:
- Fun characters to play as
- Keeps to the story's of the movies
- The addition of combo moves and finishers make for a nice new move set

Cons:
- Buggy camera
- Multiplayer lacking in a few areas
- Poor pacing

Overall Rating: 7/10

Is a Resident Evil 2 remake in the works? *UPDATED 12/08/2015*

*****
This article was originally posted yesterday, however since then there has been a MASSIVE development. Take a look at the video below:

In the time since posting the original story, the Capcom team have now confirmed the Remake is in development! No date for it's release yet, however expect to hear more over the coming months. This is possibly the greatest announcement they could have made this year. The original story follows below.
*****

In recent years the team over at Capcom have been working on remastering some of their original games within the Resident Evil series. First off was Resident Evil Remastered, which is soon to be followed by Resident Evil 0. Resident Evil was previously remastered for the GameCube, giving it a fresh lick of paint on its now out-dated graphics. Released in January of this year (2015) it not only give the graphics another fresh lick of paint, but added in a few extras to give the game that little bit more than just being a HD version.

Jump forward to recently when it was announced they would be giving the same treatment to Resident Evil 0, which features Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen. This was announced in a similar fashion to Resident Evil, through a video announcement. However in recent months, a few cryptic things have been posted over on the Resident Evil Facebook Page.

This came quite quickly after the announcement and considering the way they have been working, it wouldn't be surprising if it did come, however it wasn't expected to be so soon. Resident Evil 2 is without a doubt, my favourite entry in the entire series and has been the subject of petitions to get a remake done for years. It now seems like the Capcom team is finally trying to reach out and listen to its fans:

Now judging by the posts made by the Resident Evil team (especially that one) it would be quite obvious it is at least being discussed! This is quite some announcement and tease, so now all we're waiting for is an official one. Do you think it will be coming a while after Resident Evil 0, or do you think it's been in the works for a lot longer than that? Personally I think it's been in the works for a while and due to it being the epitome of the Resident Evil series, they are trying to make it perfect before releasing any sort of announcement. Fantastic Bore

(This post will contain spoilers for the recently released Fantastic Four film)
On Friday (7th August) me and my better half went to see what we thought would be a better remake of what was a flop of a film. Fantastic Four had been one of our favourite childhood cartoons and with the 2005 being so poorly received, we didn't think we'd be loosing out on much by going to view the reboot. How wrong we were.

The film starts off strong, showing how Reed Richards starts out in school, being the nerd in the class, however it deteriorates very quickly from there. Within the first 20 or so minutes, he becomes best friends with Ben Grimm, by simply trying to steal from his familys scrapyard and asking him if he would like to see his experiment. From this point onwards, it was all downhill for the film.

Until about an hour in to the film, we are yet to witness any of the characters powers. The main portion of this film has consisted of Reed becoming noticed for his work and building the machine to a larger proportion than his experiment. The story drags this out for much longer than it needed to, with no real progression being made as the character development is incredibly poor. Once they eventually get around to gaining their powers (through a section with lasts all of 10 minutes) it quickly jumps forward in time to when they are all in total control. This again all goes back to the film having little to no character development. At this point me and Matt both start looking at each other, giving glances of 'why the hell did we pay to watch this shit'.

It quickly became apparent that this was coming close to the end of the film when a new group went back through a rebuilt machine and found Doom. This again had no story or explanation within the film as to why he had come to hate everyone and want to destroy the planet, but I guess the Script Writer wanted us to use our imagination a fair bit in this film. The Fantastic Four's battle with Doom was short, but not sweet as it was all about terrible dialogue with little action.

All this being said, I am in no way saying the actors in the film were bad. They worked with what they were given and should they have been given better Scripts and Direction, then I firmly believe the film could have worked. They all played their roles well and fitted in to the nature of their characters.

All in all I believe the current rating on IMDB of 4 (at the time of writing this article) is still being generous to the film. It is a massive disappointment to not recommend a film from one of my favourite companies (Marvel) but I really would not advise anyone to spend any money on watching this film. I think its time Marvel Studios absorbed it in to their running universe and if need be, reboot it again.

Be sure to let us know your comments in the section below and what you thought of the film.

Aaron and Eric - The worst thing to happen to The Walking Dead?

(Just a warning, this post may contain spoilers for the past episode of The Walking Dead)
In the latest episode of The Walking Dead, we were introduced to two new characters originating from the comics in the form of Aaron and Eric. Now we're used to being introduced to new characters frequently on the show, with them coming and going quite quick. However something about these characters has set the Internet ablaze with comments ranging from the Men who think everything is to please them, to the plain idiotic comments of those who don't understand love.

Of course the first Tweet there wouldn't mind Lesbians because he is a Hetrosexual man who thinks everything has to be written to take in their sexual desires and portray them in that way. God forbid however The Walking Dead shows people as they would be in real life loving each other. This all stems from a show where people get their throats ripped out, heads bashed in, rape, torture, cannibalism and numerous other disgusting things, but this is what turns people off. The picture of two men in love with each other, worried they had lost one of the only things they had left in the post apocalyptic world. Just to show you some of the other tweets that have been made:

Now I don't know if these people are mentally inept or just plain fucking retarded but only now they decide they are going to turn off from The Walking Dead that it has shown a homosexual couple kissing? Do they not remember that Tara and Alisha, the LESBIAN couple from prior in the show? Either these people have incredible memory loss, or its just cause it doesn't fit in to their
Misogynistic lifestyle where everything is to please men.

It may just be me but do these people also not realise that this entire show is based off a comic series where all of these characters come from? Maybe if they took a minute out of their (most likely) couch potato set lifestyle and looked in to the show, these characters have been around long before they were in the show and just because you've seen it now it bothers you. Overall I think its about damn time people learned to grow up and accept that love is love no matter who the hell you fall in love with. The gays don't get angry when it shows straight people kissing, or having sex in the show, so maybe sit your arses back down in those benefit paid seats of yours and get over it.

What do you think of The Walking Dead introducing Aaron and Eric? Let us know in the comments!

Rogue Legacy - The best game from PS Plus yet

Being subscribed to PSN+, I get given a few free games every month, but none that really last all that long in terms of game play. Sure you get the occasional AAA title but you get a lot of Indies come through there too, not all which live up to expectations or any sort of fun. So when the PS Plus update for February went live I didn't expect much from the game on offer, until I began playing Rogue Legacy. Thinking to myself 'oh this will give me a few hours of game play to cure my boredom temporarily' but what came from it was something I wasn't expecting at all.

With its rather quirky setup, old school play style and unique death system, I was gripped. With each character having traits which effect how you play through the game, it is different everytime. From having characters who have dwarfism, to being far-sighted or having ADHD, this game kept things feeling fresh each playthrough. One of my favourite things about the game was how it dealt with character death and progression. Going through the game you collect gold from defeated enemies or from breaking the scenery around you, doing so allows you to purchase upgrades for yourself to get further through the dungeon. However upon your death, that character becomes a gallery picture for your profile, showing how many deaths you have been through. Upon starting again, you are given the choice for a new heir to take on the quest.

Again, this new character will have completely different Traits from your previous one and different classes which are unlocked as you progress through the skill tree displayed as your castle. I found myself lost in the game for the next few weeks after downloading, determined to make my way through the four different stages of the Castle and collect everything. The game offers varying difficulty as you make your way through the areas, giving different enemies or powered up versions of previous encounters. Once you complete the game, you can go in to a New Game + mode, keeping all of your previous weapons/armor/runes and upgrades to fight through the castle again, this time with tougher enemies from the start, and this theme continues as you beat the game again.

Overall this game simply put is one of the best things to have come from my subscription to Playstation Plus and if you aren't subscribed yet, I would do so simply to get this game.

Pros:
- Simple but challenging game play
- Brilliant progressions system
- More than a few hours gameplay

Cons:
- Outdated Graphics
- Leaves you feeling empty on finishing due to wanting more
- Occasional annoyance when you can't defeat bosses

Overall - 8/10

Episodic Games, are they worth the wait?

With the release of the first episode of Resident Evil Revelations 2 this week, I find myself wondering about the episodic format it is being released in and why so many games are doing it recently. With Resident Evil being my favorite game series (despite its lack of luster the past few titles) I'm thinking to myself why would they does this and break the game apart in to mini parts, rather than a large game as a whole? My reasoning against this is simple, surely it would break up the speed and immersion of the game by releasing it weekly instead of in one big go? It's hard to understand why they would suddenly change their stance to this.

Granted this adds an extra suspense feeling to a series that is lacking in the survival horror of its predecessors, but why couldn't this be added in through the old methods used with limited ammo and jump scare moments? Does anybody else remember having to try to fight the Tyrants of Resident Evil 2 with such limited ammo you ended up using your knife or running past zombies knowing you'll need that ammo for later? Now I understand with each episode you'll be getting a portion of the story and some additions for the mercenaries side game but to me, it seems a little broken off to keep the story in portions. From what I understand of the release, it will be in four episodes, switching between Claire and Barry respectively, until the full disc release in March.

This isn't the first time this has happened however within the gaming industry. Some recent examples in the form of TellTales Walking Dead series, and the Siren: Blood Curse game, both of which have released episodically. Admittedly I haven't played the Walking Dead title however I did play Siren, which I found the episodes really did nothing but hinder progress throughout the game and didn't leave me wanting more. However this could possibly be down to the game itself being less than outstanding.

I am in high hopes the episodic format doesn't let Resident Evil down and it will prove itself to be as fantastic of a title that Revelations was before it. I'm going to be holding out until next month to get the full disc version to add to my collection however because who doesn't love a physical disc compared to a digital download? What will you be getting the game and what do you think of it so far? Let us know in the comments below!

Put in Isolation for raising money for Charity

Today I have read a story about 14 year old Stan Lock who has been told by his school that he must stay in Isolation until his hair has grown back until a Grade 2 which could take weeks. Too give you some back story on this, Stan has seen a number of friends and family members fighting Cancer and decided enough was enough, so wanted to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support. He did this by shaving his head and getting people to donate, some of which were even teachers at his school. He did this on a Sunday evening but upon arriving at Churchill Academy in North Somerset, his PE teacher took a photo and sent it to the Head of the school.

The next day he arrived to find he was in isolation until his hair grew back, with his lunches and breaks taken from him also. The school's only answer was that is broke their strict uniform policy as it is considered an 'extreme' hairstyle. In an extract from The Mirror newspaper the head had this to say:

"It is always easier then to blame someone else - I and the school are an easy target when the fault lies elsewhere."

"Some people wish to avoid consequences by blaming others - I think this sends a poor message to young people".

Now in my opinion the school are being very selfish and thinking only of their own 'image' here when they should be supporting a young child who is quite obviously trying to do something for the greater good. By taking such a stance against younger people doing charitable work, it is only going to put them off doing it in the future, which is quite a saddening thing to think about. In the extracts taken from the Heads speech, it seems he is trying to blame the parent for allowing their child to be caring for others, which to me is just such an incredible thing to say. The Head should be praising this child and using him as a shining example to the school of the things they can achieve and contribute to.
